The Vision: A New Wave in Tattoo Aftercare

The tattoo aftercare market was saturated with products focused only on the art. Tsunami Balm was conceived for a different audience: the athlete, the creator, and the high-performer whose skin endures the elements. The challenge wasn’t just to create another balm; it was to build an entire brand, from formula to e-commerce, that felt native to tattoo culture while speaking the language of an active, performance-driven lifestyle.

The Solution: A Full-Stack Brand Launch

As the core creative and strategic lead, Ben directed the brand’s entire lifecycle, from initial concept to market launch. This involved uniting product innovation, a disruptive visual identity, and a direct-to-consumer e-commerce strategy under a single, cohesive vision. The result is a high-performance skincare brand built for motion.

1. Product & Brand Identity

Formula: The project began at the chemical level, partnering with skincare chemists to develop a lightweight, performance-grade formula. The final product is enriched with botanicals and natural oils to support fast healing, specifically for active individuals.

Positioning: We defined a brand story centered on energy, movement, and resilience. The name “Tsunami Balm” was chosen to capture both its refreshing, wave-like feel and its unstoppable, powerful force—merging tattoo culture with the mindset of an athlete.

2. Packaging & Unboxing Experience

The packaging was engineered to be a key brand differentiator. An innovative peel-and-reveal label system was designed, featuring a hinge mechanism that transforms the product itself into a storytelling and educational tool. This was applied across the entire product line, from sample packs to retail boxes, creating a memorable unboxing experience.

3. E-commerce & AI-Powered Marketing

A robust Shopify storefront was built to serve as the brand’s central D2C hub, integrated with Klaviyo for automated customer journeys. The marketing strategy blended authentic, director-led creative with scalable, AI-driven content.

Authentic Creative: All core photo and video production was directed to be raw and genuine, featuring real athletes and creators to build an authentic community, not just a customer base.

AI-Driven Content: Advanced AI tools were leveraged to rapidly develop and scale marketing assets. This included generating iterative ad concepts, drafting social media copy, and creating video cutdowns for targeted campaigns on TikTok and Instagram, allowing for high-volume testing and optimization.

Strategic Partnership: Official UFC Licensee

To cement the brand’s position in the world of high-performance sports, a strategic alignment was developed to become an official licensed product of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). This partnership instantly gave Tsunami Balm credibility and massive exposure to its core demographic, integrating the brand into the culture of professional fighters and their global audiences.

The Impact

Under this creative and strategic direction, Tsunami Balm launched as a unique, high-performance skincare brand that stands apart from its competitors. It successfully fused authentic tattoo culture with modern sports credibility, creating a complete ecosystem—from a performance-grade product to a conversion-focused digital platform—built to serve the tattooed, active lifestyle.
